(Because Adventure Should Uplift Lives, Not Just Trails)
For 12+ years, the SHTA has grown into a unique grassroots initiative built on a core belief: "Tourism can be a vehicle for social equity — not just exploration. And meaningful change begins when people translate their own experiences into compassion."
SHTA was established not from privilege, but from lived reality. Its founder, Anish Sharma, carries a story shaped by childhood hardship, a powerful act of kindness, and a deep commitment to ensure no child’s potential is limited by circumstance. Growing up in a rural village, Anish experienced an education system where discipline was harsh, opportunities were scarce, and support systems almost didn’t exist. He still remembers his early school days where discipline meant being hit by the teachers with a bamboo stick—a painful symbol of a system where fear overshadowed understanding, and where children often struggled silently without resources, guidance, or encouragement. These memories stayed with him—not as bitterness, but as a promise. A promise that children deserve care, not fear; opportunity, not punishment.
Years later, during his journey in the tourism industry, a single moment reshaped his destiny. A traveler from Mexico, Juan Nieto, gifted him a laptop. What seemed like a small gesture became a doorway to learning, confidence, and a world of possibilities Anish had never imagined. That laptop sparked a belief:“If one act of kindness could change my life, what if we multiplied that impact?”
This question became the foundation of SHTA.
To uplift children and communities in remote Himalayan regions through education, access, protection, and opportunity, ensuring every child grows with dignity, safety, and hope.
A future where Himalayan children learn without fear, live without barriers, and rise with opportunity—supported by communities strengthened through compassion and responsible action.
Help That Understands
Support that doesn’t guess—but knows.
Programs that don’t assume—but listen.
Action that doesn’t wait—but responds.
This belief guides every project we design and every community we support.
SHTA operates on four fundamental pillars, each rooted in practical experience and real community needs:
A model where tourism directly fuels community progress.
Every traveler who treks with Safe Himalayan Travel & Adventure becomes part of a circular system of impact.
A portion of time, energy, and resources generated through tourism is invested back into the mountain communities who make these adventures possible.
This creates shared upliftment instead of extractive tourism.
CBT ensures:
Treks support children’s education
Guides and porters’ communities receive assistance
Remote villages gain visibility and dignity
Goodwill becomes a normal part of travel
This is not charity.
This is responsible tourism with heart.
Support is never given as a transaction. It is offered with care, respect, and sensitivity.
No family should feel smaller because they needed help.
This changes everything. It means:
We don’t do mass distribution for photos
We do personalized, needs-based support
We protect the identity and dignity of recipients
We always listen before acting
We collaborate rather than impose
Dignity is central to our work—even more than donations.
We don’t run programs from offices.
We run them inside communities, with the people who live there.
How this works:
Travel routes help identify real-time needs
Local guides and families share challenges they observe
Needs are verified with teachers, mothers’ groups, and local leaders
Small, targeted interventions are designed
Long-term follow-up is ensured
This model guarantees impact that is:
Real
Measurable
Locally approved
Immediate when necessary
For more than 12 years, SHTA has been a reliable partner to Himalayan communities during their most difficult moments. Our work goes beyond short-term relief—we ensure long-term recovery, stability, and opportunity for children and families.
When Nepal was struck by the 2015 earthquake, SHTA responded without hesitation.
We delivered:
Emergency food, water, and medical supplies
Temporary shelter materials and blankets
School support for affected children
Long-term rehabilitation and rebuilding assistance
We remained with communities long after the initial emergency ended.
As lockdowns wiped out the tourism economy, thousands of families were left with no income.
SHTA stepped in to provide:
Food packages and cooking essentials
PPE, masks, and hygiene kits
Medicines and basic healthcare support
Direct household assistance for vulnerable families
Global supporters strengthened this effort, ensuring no family was left behind.
High-altitude children and families face severe seasonal challenges every year.
To protect them, SHTA provides:
Warm jackets, gloves, hats, socks, and thermals
Shoes and school uniforms
Menstrual kits and hygiene products
Umbrellas, raincoats, and educational supplies during monsoon
Our goal is simple: no child should suffer because of weather.
One of the most meaningful pillars of SHTA’s work is ensuring that children stay in school and have the tools to learn, grow, and dream.
Through our SHTA Child Sponsorship & Education Support Program, we provide:
Full-year scholarships for vulnerable students
School bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, and art materials
Uniforms and shoes so children can attend school with dignity
Hygiene kits to promote health and confidence
Regular check-ins with families and teachers to ensure consistent learning
This initiative removes financial burdens from parents and ensures that children—especially those in remote mountain communities—can continue their education without interruption.
SHTA acts fast, with accuracy, transparency, and empathy.
Our community mission began with the sponsorship of children at Manang Nepali Children Organization (MNCO), ensuring access to education, care, and opportunity for those in need. Uschi Didi’s support for MNCO was truly remarkable.

We organized a health camp and food support program at Bal Sarathi School, Pashupati, reaching vulnerable children who needed immediate care and nourishment.
A special thank you to Carlos Peres Osorio, who helped us document the children’s stories and needs, enabling us to raise essential funds for their continued support.
After the devastating 2015 earthquake, SHTA extended sponsorship support to 20 children in Gorkha, the epicenter of the disaster—children who lost homes and family members, providing hope during the most painful times.
With generous support from Juan Nieto, we strengthened our relief efforts during this difficult time, helping families rebuild and recover with dignity.

In partnership with ThisWorldExists, Australia, we supported the reconstruction of the school building in Fulkharka, Dhading.
We also delivered construction materials to support 25+ families in another area of Dhading in rebuilding their homes with the support of Juan again.

Together with ThisWorldExists, we built a five-classroom bamboo school in Sorung Chhabise, Udayapur, designed by Simon and Mavi, whose creative vision and architectural expertise made this inspiring, eco-friendly learning space possible. SHTA also provided educational sponsorship to 50+ children in the community.
We constructed a women empowerment center in Palubari, Sankhu, to support training, livelihoods, and skill development for local women—again with support from ThisWorldExists.
A heartfelt thank you to Uschi Didi and NMS Germany for supporting the center with essential equipment and materials, helping women gain skills, confidence, and new opportunities for livelihood.
In partnership with ThisWorldExists and eNett, we helped build a dedicated school for children with disabilities in Syange, Sera, Tanahun, offering safe and accessible learning spaces.
During the pandemic, SHTA supported thousands of people with food, health supplies, and emergency assistance—thanks to the incredible generosity of our global community.
Rick, Celia, Joe, Susie, Marshall, Ali & the Dixon Family (USA), Ryan, Chris & Friends (Australia), Nebojsa and Friends (Serbia) — your heartfelt contributions during the COVID crisis helped families survive one of the toughest periods in recent memory.

With the help of ThisWorldExists and eNett, Australia, we provided computers, laptops, and a fully equipped computer room at Shree Janata Kalika Secondary School, Sorung Chhabise, opening doors to digital learning in a remote region.

SHTA built a primary school in Tilahar Neta, Syangja District, made possible by the support of Juan Nieto from Mexico.

With continued support from Juan, we constructed a second five-classroom building at Chisapani School, doubling the school’s capacity and impact.

Through this meaningful contribution, children from disadvantaged backgrounds received warm winter uniforms, ensuring they can attend school during the cold season with comfort, dignity, and confidence. In addition, the full-year sponsorship has removed financial barriers for 10 highly vulnerable students, covering essential educational needs and allowing them to continue their studies without interruption.
In winter-prone communities, this support goes far beyond clothing and fees—it directly protects children’s health, improves school attendance, and restores hope for families who struggle to meet basic educational costs.

SHTA extends its sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Paul from PACH Inc., USA, for his generous support toward the 2025 Winter Uniform Distribution and one-year educational sponsorship for 10 vulnerable students at Jaya Bhadrakali School, Budhanilkantha. Paul’s commitment reflects the true spirit of “help that understands”—support that reaches children at the right time, addresses real needs, and creates long-term impact.

SHTA also had the privilege of meeting the sponsored children from Sorung Chhabise and extending their educational support for another year.
These moments remind us that sponsorship is not just financial help—it is belief, continuity, and commitment. By standing with these children year after year, we ensure their learning journey continues without interruption, fear, or uncertainty.

On behalf of the students, their families, teachers, and the entire SHTA team, we extend our deepest appreciation to Didi Uschi and her Friends from Germany as well as our dearest Mike and Gaby for standing with us and for investing in warmer classrooms, uninterrupted education, and brighter futures.
